New MySpace vs. Old MySpace

Since a couple of days, the New MySpace is officially out.

I guess it’s hard to not be better than the old new MySpace and I think I’m quite liking it so far, but it’s seems a bit confusing at first...

Remember when they changed MySpace from the all-customizable original site to what now is the old, or as the people at MySpace call it, the Classic MySpace? Back then MySpace was THE music network and it was the network that allowed you to connect with people all over the world. It was MySpace where I discovered a few musicians that I’m still listening to now.

However, with the rise of Facebook MySpace was clearly struggling and in 2010 they decided to completely redesign the whole page. Not in a very good way in my opinion. The radical changes in combination with the new social network Facebook sure were a reason why more and more people stopped using it and so did I.

Now there’s the New MySpace, I’d say we should at least give it a chance.

I’m wondering though why they still insist on keeping the old MySpace…

What do you think?

Here’s the New MySpace and here you have the old “Classic” MySpace.

Let me explain why I love this photo so much and why I kept it in the first place. The only thing that’s in focus is a person’s hand grabbing Lights’. But I love it because it was the most honest photo I’ve taken in a long time. I watched as Lights reached out and the girl to the side of me grasped her hand. And it wasn’t an “omg there’s a musician I’m going to touch them” type of thing. There was so much in that one movement. They gripped each other and it was as if both sides were saying I’m here for you. The girl didn’t scream or freak out, she just held on calmly while Lights sang as if there was nothing more natural in the world than this one, pure moment. It only lasted a few seconds, but it was long enough for me to catch. And it’s moments like this, those times when artist and fan come together, that keep me coming back to shows.

One special moment captured in a photo with a great story. :)
